The goalposts in the photo above have now been taken down and moved to the other half of the football pitch for WSSCC to install when they are ready. We hope to move our existing Clubhouse and put it near to where the goalposts were i.e. roughly where the goalposts appear in the photo.
Dec : We have put up ,some posts and a bit of rope with signs to keep people off the new ly top dressed areas of the courts.
Dec : Stephen Harris did a second bit of tining and brushing of top dressing before the winter really sets in. He plans to do some reseeding in the spring , weather permitting.
Dec 15th We have chosen a cylinder mower for Kirin Asher to use. It is an ex-demo Allett C24 cylinder mower with a 10 blade cutting head and replacable cartridges for rake and scarifier. The cost is largely met by our grant from the WS Solar Fund. Many thanks to them.
Dec 15th Fixtures have now been set for three teams to play in SW Fed leagues in 2020 season: GC Level Play, GC H'cap and AC Federation.
We will not field an AC intermediate or B-league team in 2020 but do hope to play in AC Short croquet tournaments in 2020 and a new SW Fed short croquet league in 2021.
Dec 14th our groundwork contractor , Stephen Harris of Wessex Ground Services, has visited the site again to check on growth after tining and top dressing. He did some more brushing to get top dressing into the holes from tining and also to fill shallow dips some more. The surface is good and drains well and won't need any more work until the spring.
Dec 12th Kirin Asher is confirmed as our groundsman for 2020. He lives locally and is deputy head gardener at nearby Bryanstone School. He will be able to mow the lawns twice per week during high season ; as soon as he gets a lawn mower!
Dec 7th The CA development fund have kindly given us a grant in three parts. Some money towards our spring groundwork to get lawns into a match play condition. Some money towards a lawn mower. And finally some money towards moving our clubhouse (and maybe equipment hut).
Dec 3rd some more groundwork was done to get more top dressing into the playing surface, and improve levels.
We have also put up some posts a and a rope barrier to keep people off the lawns over the winter.
Dec 1st We have been successful in getting money from the Winterborne Stickland Solar fund to pay for a lawn mower for next year.
This will enable the local contractor to mow twice a week and maintain the lawns more cheaply and frequently than a commercial contractor.
We are hopeful that CA Development Committee will support us as well.
Nov 23rd : We had 8/9 people at the skittles evening. The locals had home team advantage with the line of the alley, but we hope to do better next year. The main purpose of the event was to meet other WSSCC and socialize. This was accomplished with the help of some drinks from the bar.
Oct 26th: Wessex Ground Services have completed Quadraplay (aerate, scarify, dethatch, brush) and top dressing.
They did consider spreading fertiliser but it is late in the season so will be better next spring.
Winterborne Stickland Sports and Community Club
The grounds are to be found on the north edge of the village .

It doesn't have a web site.
The site has two large open areas, one is a football pitch and the other is a small cricket pitch with a tennis court and childrens play area. We will take over one half of the football pitch and build two full size croquet lawns.
There is a large pavilion with toilets and a changing room which will be given over to our club for storage and our exclusive use.
There are some photos below.
Above is after top dressing etc has been brushed into the surface. The roped off area is ours. We hope to move the clubhouse to approximately where the goalposts are now.
Here is our SWF match schedule for 2020.
